Prayer and Nehemiah
Psalms 34:10
Sometimes when we try to accomplish something, we get a lot of encouragement from the people around us. Other times people might not be so encouraging. Today we’ll hear how Nehemiah first prayed to God for help, then was able to encourage the Israelites to rebuild the walls around Jerusalem despite some pretty scary enemies who tried over and over to get them to quit.

Paper Airplane Prayers
Prep
Paper to make a paper airplane
In Action
Write on a sheet of plain paper, what you want to do for God. Pray and ask Him to lead you as you trust Him. Now fold or help your child fold a paper airplane. Wadded up paper works too! Create a pretend “frisbee golf course” in your house, by pointing to an object that everyone tries to target with their paper airplane. While journeying through your “course” draw out what your child could do for God to make a difference in this world.

Materials
Clean trash
Odds and ends found on your garage work bench or office desk
In Action
Provide a pile of clean recyclable materials (or trash) for the your kids and invite them to try to make something useful out of it.
This pile of materials may have looked like junk at first, but you were able to create some really cool things out of it! In the bible story today we saw that Nehemiah wanted to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. The walls had been completely destroyed in some places. Many people didn’t think it was possible to make the city safe again. We’ll find out what happened in a few minutes.
