In difficult times trust is challenged, what will you hold on to? The Israelites experienced terrible life circumstances while in Egypt but prayed for God’s deliverance. God not only proved He could be trusted, but demonstrated that the things society holds on to, cannot.

Activities

Loose Change Treasure Hunt – Psalms 119:105

Materials
Flashlight, Bible and coins

Preparation
In advance - Pick a dark room or closet to hide money, mainly coins.

In Action
Encourage your child(ren) to go into the dark room and look for money. Set a (short) time limit. Call time and see how much money was gathered.

Ask the following questions:

  • Was difficult in the dark?
  • Do you think you found everything?

Have your child/children read Psalms 119:105.
Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.

In Action
Now give your children a flashlight and the same allotted time. See if they can gather more money with “light.”

Ask the following questions:

  • How is God’s word like a light?
  • Are some lights brighter than others?
  • If you were in extreme darkness, would you want a really bright light or a really dim light?
  • If you were in extreme darkness, would you want a really bright light or a really dim light?

In Action
Review the acronym T.R.U.E – Tons of Data, Resurrection, Underground Discoveries, and Exact. Have your kids color the zones in different colors, then cut out the square. Fold like a cootie catcher. If you need help, watch this video.

Sword Drill
If time allows host a kids vs. parents Sword Drill. Battle one another seeing who can find a Bible verse first. If there are significant age gaps, utilize teams or have a 10-second delay before the older group gets to start.
