Who Is Jesus?

He is our hero and champion, and the hope we wish to share with everyone.

Jesus is God
John 1:1. He is part of the Trinity- One God with three parts: God the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.

Jesus created everything
Colossians 1:16. Jesus handcrafted all of existence, which means he is the creator and king of all creation.

Jesus created man in His own image
Genesis 1:26-27. Out of God's love, He handmade mankind and crafted him in His own image - meaning we each have a soul and will live for eternity. If we live in a loving, obedient relationship with God, then we will spend eternity with him in heaven. However, every man and woman who has lived has chosen, at one time or another, to rebel against God and do our own thing. We have lied, cheated, lusted for things we don't have, and much more. The result is that, without Jesus, each one of us would spend eternity separated from God. For this reason Jesus had to come to earth.

Jesus came to the earth as a man
John 1:10. To rescue mankind from its self-imposed rebellion, Jesus came to the earth as a God-man. He was born to a virgin girl named Mary Luke 1:26-33

Jesus lived a perfect life and was crucified on a Roman cross Hebrews 4:14-15; Luke 23:32ff. Jesus was tempted in every way, but did not sin. Jesus had to be perfect for his sacrifice to be enough to forgive us of our sins. The scriptures tell us that, "by his wounds we are healed" Isaiah 53:5b. He was then nailed on a Roman cross where he died.

Jesus rose from death
Luke 24:5-7. After Jesus died, his body was laid in a tomb for three days Luke 23:53. On the third day, Jesus proved his deity by rising from death. His resurrection proved his deity and crushed the hold sin had on mankind. Anyone who receives Jesus in baptism can receive forgiveness of sin and experience a relationship with God Acts 2:38.

Jesus is our mediator with God
1 Timothy 2:5; Hebrews 9:15. After his resurrection, Jesus spent 40 days with his followers and then ascended to heaven where he now sits next to God the Father and mediates - or talks to God on our behalf. That is why we close our prayers by saying, "In Jesus name we pray" because it is in and through the name of Jesus that we have the ability to talk to God.
